Looking Ahead: Party Destination Asia!
Some of the latest in Party Destinations Asia takes its leads from the latest in contemporary trends. Seoul may be the front runner now, with K-Pop exports taking the world by storm, tourists and party animals alike are flocking to the Metropolitan City in hordes. The greatest thing about this is that though the other four party destinations I will be speaking of in the next 700 words are all spread out across the Pan Asia Region, the truth of the matter is, people are looking for an alternative to the most common of understandings in the what’s hip and what’s not. So, as Seoul is number one at the moment, it does provide the nouveau riche a much needed break from foreign hordes taking refuge in South East Asia, looking for a good time.
To begin with a party is a party is a party, and Metropolitan Neo-Noir setting of Seoul is the perfect vacation from the latest in party vacationing dispositions. The city center is lined with bars and clubs to suit every palate, particularly in the Hong Dae District are you going to find hot spots, where the most popular of University Students will be hanging out. The alcohol is cheap, but only if you sample the local products will you be able to crimp on spending. I hear the Soju is a party favourite.
Since the economic downturn hit the financial district of South East Asia just over 20 years ago, there have been many an ideology for covering the loss in equity, from spending our way out of recession to capitalist capitalizing on investment opportunities for the rich, the Asian Financial Crisis proved to be a blessing more than a curse. And, as a result the party scene became a popular outlet for people looking to spend their newly acquired wealth. Thailand was the number one contender at this point and fast became the party destination for South East Asia. Though the scene has slowed down a little, cities such as Bangkok and Koh Phan-Ngan remain vibrant.
Among other party favorites, where the scene remains opulent above all else, Kuala Lumpur stands as the classic of the time… from then till now. Cafes in newly developed areas such as Bangsar South, to Rooftop bars approaching the heart of the city(Lunar Bar, Canopy Lounge Bar etc), rave venues, and finally the classic club spots like Zouk and Orange still remain party favorites.
But before we venture forward to to number five on our list of top five Asian Party Destinations, let’s take the time to highlight the Full Moon Party at Koh Phan-Ngan. Amidst the lunar calendar and set every two weeks is a party to end all parties. In deliberate beach rave fashion The Full Moon Party is held every two weeks on Koh Phan-Ngan Island on Haad Rin Road, catered to of the locals the rave party designed to have you dance the night away barefoot, many attractions are hosted there too, for more chilled out atmosphere, party-goers are also afforded the opportunity to take in the many other attractions. Fire Breathers and Fire Poi is a mainstay, outside of dancing under the full moon. A few tips for those planning to grace the party destination.
1) Stay at the Haad Yao Bayview Resort and Spa.
2) It is best to check the schedule before you book your trip as the festivities take place on every full moon.
3) Beware of scalpers and fake ticket holders selling entries to the rave party, which should go for only THB 100 in any case.
4) Performers at the rave are all on the ground level so enjoy the show from the ground level up.
And finally, Vang Vieng, Laos where all rites of passage are afforded of the backpackers union. Party in your flip flops if you just intend to mingle or well, party, as there is not much else to do around here. Vang Vieng is a remote town-man ship where a varied spread of party types are accommodated for. If you fancy a dressy-type party, this is also a place for you to hang up your board shorts and flip flops.
The main party fad is to go tubing, which involves renting a tractor tire tube, floating on it down the Nam Song River with a Beerlao in your hand as you sip and take in the views of the surrounding limestone peaks. Loas is a party central, nothing more need be said about this exotic resort, except that there is in fact nothing else to do here. And finally, the only thing thing that is on the itinerary for those heading there…
