Ever since I got back from the States, following my Masters Degree in Screenwriting, I have been craving the perfect Pastrami Sandwich. My incarnation happened to be from a Big Boy’s Chain just down the road from where I lived and went to school. And, since then I have learned the best of such sandwiches originates from New Orleans, also found stateside, I have been laboring long and hard to recreate the said delicacy in my own kitchen and on my own terms.
What I am told is that the secret behind a good Pastrami Reuben is in its coleslaw dressing. So I took the liberty of writing in to various deli’s, both local and abroad, to enlighten me in the aides of their respective secret sauces, with the promise of mentioning them on my blog.
I am of course doing no such thing, and I will tell you why before I take my turn to inform you of the best sauce, after much experimentation, there is out there. So, I will not inform you of their secret sauces simply because I, as an independent news portal, do not see it beneficial to be eliciting their infamous slaw sauces, instead I will tell you only of my favorite and perhaps, inspire you to experiment on your own. You see, the secret in understanding flavors that go with each other is all highlighted in our respective imaginations. At least, in the aides of home-cooking decadence, will it sate our respective palettes.
This one happens to be my favorite, a Homemade Russian Dressing to dress the slaw for better mileage and a blend of flavors. Recipe Below:-
- 1/2 cup mayo
- 2 tablespoons ketchup-style chili sauce find this by the ketchup in the grocery store
- 1/2 tablespoon horseradish sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce more or less to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- salt to taste
Of course you may also, have the bread and Meat and Cheddar all vary in the blend, but as is said, use your imagination and assemble your sandwich, served hot or cold, to your personal taste and pleasure. Enjoy!
