I have been there and done all that too! Did I ever tell you I also bought the t-shirt?

One day you are a travel writer eating your heart out at the most swanky places in town(with expenses paid mind you) the next you’re thinking about how to lose all those extra pounds, so think of the most conventional exercises and the available facilities necessary during lock down. Here are a few thoughts, perhaps a swimming pool, a jogging track and maybe a road bike. The swimming pool can easily be ruled out, as most of these public places will potentially turn into a breeding ground for the dreaded Covid-19 virus. The running track is a simple can-do; simply keep your distance while running against traffic and the other runners potentially there running alongside, behind or in front of you. Social distancing will be a safer bet that way, as if we didn’t already know. The problem with running while over-weight is that it tends to eat away at those joints separating the thigh bone and the shin. What now, the road bike can cost anywhere from MYR3,000 to MYR 15,000?!

It’s a good thing that I came prepared. I knew this day would come, it was just a case of being ready for it. So I have managed to save enough money for a road bike and will in fact be reaping the benefit of working my heart rate up to a good ole sweat. The day has indeed come and I will be addressing the issues surrounding my depreciating health situation very soon i.e. tomorrow, when I finally order my long awaited road bike… the one I have been planning to get for close to 6 months now.

Low blood pressure, high cholesterol and a steady diet of coffee and cigarettes had at my favorite cafes across town, all the while washing my hands every hour and face mask to ready, of course, has left me in quite the rut. However, I have never been more prepared for the ordeal that my impending work out routine is sure to become.

Time to give the pen a rest and hang up my dusty typewriter for a good portion of the better part of each work week. I plan to be going for a 10 kilometre trek 3 times a week to start and slowly work my way up to 30 kilometres 3 times a week till I get my health back up to snuff.

I give it six months before I start to blister from the sun on my back, but committed I surely am. My only question is; What do you intend to do about all that self-motivated depression-induced feeding. This is not good enough people. Time to get healthy.

FITNESS OR BUST!

A writer is a dreamer and the beauty of dreaming is that we can make them real. My new mission is in health.
